Based on the functionality and usage, the dyeing and finishing auxiliaries in the textile industry can be classified into different categories. The blog explains the prominent classification and the application of each category.
What are dying auxiliaries?
They are chemicals or formulated chemical compositions that enable the processing operation in manufacturing, dying, printing and finishing the product effectively.
The auxiliaries help in achieving the desired effect as well. They prepare the substrate for coloration and stabilize the application medium.
It results in increasing the fastness of dying. Each auxiliary plays a critically important role in the manufacturing process.
Based on their function and use, the classification is like this:
- Anti-crease agent
- Pretreatment chemicals
- Sequestering agents
- Leveling agents
- Peroxide killer
- Antifoaming agents
- Salts, electrolytes, and carriers
- pH regulating substance
- Buffer system
- Scouring, anti-pilling, bleaching and dispersing agents
- Mercerizing agent
- Yarn lubricants and brighteners
- Washing off agents
- Soaping and softening agents and so on
Depending on the need appropriate auxiliaries are chosen.
Functions of auxiliaries
Here are some functions of a few auxiliaries.
They are organic compounds that help in reducing the particle size of dye and solubilizing them. In other words, it increases the solubility of a disperse dye in water.
A carrier is an organic compound that helps in the dying process to happen at low temperature and pressure. It assures that the dye sticks to the fabric well.
In hydrophobic fibers (or synthetic fibers), disperse dying process is used. When it is done at low pressure and temperature, it is called carrier dying.
Here, the substances are divided into different chemical groups such as Primary amines, Starch, Phenolic groups and so on.
These substances remove the access peroxide content from the fabric. Usually, they are added while performing pre-bleaching stage or at the time of peroxide bleaching process.
Sequestering and anti-foaming agent
Sequestering agent removes the hardness of the water. It is one of the crucial auxiliaries in the textile manufacturing process.
The antifoaming agent reduces foam or prevents the formation of foam. Excessive foam formation not only creates an adverse effect in textile production process, but also reduces the uptake percentage of dying.
Therefore, a surfactant called anti-foaming agent is used in dying bath and printing paste.
Synthetic fibers or blended fibers face the problem of forming pills on the surface. By using anti-pilling agents, it can be reduced up to a great extent.
ORA CHEM is the manufacturers and suppliers of textile chemicals and auxiliaries which offers pre-treatment chemicals, dyeing & printing auxiliaries and finishing & sizing formulations to meet with various fabric requirements such as finishing, sizing, dyeing, pre-treatment and printing.
