Introduction to The Preparation Methods of Titanium Carbide Powder

Titanium carbide The light gray crystals are cubical and have a high degree of chemical stability. Titanium carbide reacts little with hydrochloric and sulfuric acids. However, it is soluble in aqua regia (nitric, hydrofluoric, and nitric-acetic acid) and alkaline oxides.
Titanium carbide, a gray iron crystal with a metallic luster that belongs to the NaCl cubic structure, is a simple cubic structure. Carbon and titanium atoms in TiC are bonded together by strong covalent bonding. It shares several properties with metals including high melting and boiling points, hardness, and high boiling temperatures. Diamond is the only other material that can rival its hardness.

Titanium carbide has excellent thermal conductivity and electrical conductivity. This powder is superconducting even at low temperatures. TiC can be used in the production of heat-resistant metals, cemented carbides, antiwear materials, high temperature radiation materials, and other high temperature vacuum equipment. There are many other applications in different fields.

Titanium carbid powder preparation methods:

As raw materials, titanium dioxide and carbon black are used.
The dry powder mixture of high-purity Titanium dioxide and Carbon Black is mixed proportionally and then pressed into a tube furnace in hydrogen using either a horizontal carbon furnace or vertical carbon furnace. At 1900-2300degC reduction to get block TiC. Then pulverization for titanium carbide product. Or using carbon and sponge titanium as raw materials. Carbon and sponge Titanium (or titanium, or titanium waste recovered in carbide solid solutions) are mixed in equal proportions, heated to 1500-1700degC, in a hydrogen stream of high purity, and then finally obtained titanium carbide.

Direct carbonization of Titanium Metal:
Titanium powder (either reduced by sodium, or decomposed titanium hydride less than 325 mesh), is mixed with black carbon and molded using a pressure around 0.98 Pa. It was then heated up to 1500-17degC, in a high-purity stream of hydrogen, to infiltrate carbon. The reaction temperature, holding time and particle size are dependent on the raw material.

Gas phase reaction method:
The steam from the titanium tetrachloride mixture is then mixed with hydrocarbons containing hydrogen (benzene, methane etc.). After induction heating (or other methods), the steam is sent to deposit titanium carbide on the substrate. The reaction precipitates titania carbide on substrate. The precipitated form of titanium carbide differs depending on the reaction conditions.

The Properties And Applications of Titanium Carbide Powder

Titanium carbide TiC has the chemical symbol TiC. It is a metallic-looking steel gray carbide crystal with thermal and electrical conductivity.

Titanium Carbide Powder Properties

Titanium carbide, a compound that is extremely hard and has a melting point of over 900°C, is also a highly corrosive material. Its magnetic properties are weak and its hardness is second to only diamond. Titanium carbide has a low magnetic property and is not soluble with water.
Titanium carbide reacts with pure oxygen at 1150degC. Titanium carbide is a solid that has the same crystal structure as TiO and TiN.

Titanium Carbide Applications

Titanium carbide can be used for a variety of purposes. As the technology for the microwave synthesis nano-TiC is improved and industrialized, the performance and applications of nano-TiC will continue to improve.

1. Use of titanium carbide as a multiphase material
Titanium carbide ceramics, also known as super hard tool materials (TiC), are composite materials made from TiC and TiN. WC, A12O, and other raw materials can be combined to create a variety of composite ceramic materials. These materials, which have a high melting temperature, high hardness and excellent chemical resistance, are used for cutting tools, wear-resistant components and other products. It is also the material of choice for the electrode because it has excellent electrical conductivity.

2. Titanium carbide can be used as a coating material
The coating of titanium carbide used on tools can extend their service life by up to 3-5 times.

3. Titanium carbide can be used to make foam ceramics
As a filter ceramic foam can remove inclusions effectively from fluids. The filtering mechanisms are agitation, and adsorption. Titanium carbide foam ceramics are more resistant to heat, corrosion, and have higher hardness than oxide foam ceramics.

4. Infrared ceramic materials use titanium carbide
The intermetallic titanium carbide has good chemical stability, and it does not change valence, making it a great choice for high-temperature applications.
