While WS2 has a high resistance to corrosion, it is not able to prevent corrosion from inherently weak materials.

The WS2 can be used to make petrochemical oil and greases, synthetic oils as well as hydraulic oils. This oil has a natural affinity for lubricants. It strives to preserve the fluid power layer.
High operating temperatures
The temperature at which WS2 operates is between -460 and 1200 degF under normal conditions, or 2400 degF when operating in vacuum. There is an 825 degree F oxidation threshold, which is quite low compared to other lubricants. It also has very low exhaust characteristics. Because of its high resistance to heat, tungsten fluoride is an ideal material for bolts/studs and shafts used in exhaust systems.
